Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an exception of most traditional Chinese
arts and technology and that remains practical and valuable for patients in the
modern societies in the East and West. Acupuncture, a part of TCM, is well
accepted in the United States as an alternative therapy for the management of
pain and other conditions. Although it took almost thirty years for medical
researchers in the States to “approve” that acupuncture really works, the TCM
herbal therapy may need less time to become equally popular at the present pace
of development. How did “acupuncture fever” start in New York? What is the
fundamental different between TCM and Western medicine? Is TCM an art,
bioscience, or culture? In the talk entitled “the Beauty of Traditional Chinese
Medicine”, Dr. Yong Ming Li will try to answer these burning questions. Dr. Li
is a licensed Medical Doctor, Acupuncturist, and researcher. He earned BM in
TCM from Liaoning College of TCM, China and a PhD in Molecular Immunology from
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He completed resident and
fellowship training at NSUH hospital and Columbia University. Dr. Li has
published over 100 papers and abstracts and 2 books. He has received several
Research Awards and 4 US patents. He is the President of TCM Association &
Alumni and also serves as a TCM expert for several committees at National
Institute of Health.
